Biography
Paul Giovanni (1933–1990) was an American playwright, actor, director, singer and musician. He wrote the music for the 1973 British horror film The Wicker Man, also writing lyrics and performing songs including 'Landlord's Daughter' and 'Gently Johnny'.
Giovanni was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He attended St Joseph's College in Philadelphia and earned a master's degree in drama at the Catholic University of America. Earlier in his career he wrote songs for and performed with the rock group Side Show.
On Broadway he wrote and directed The Crucifer of Blood (1978), a Sherlock Holmes play that was later adapted for television. He was the longtime companion of playwright Peter Shaffer.
