Biography
Paul Grimstad is an American composer, musician, writer, academic and actor. He is Senior Lecturer in the Humanities Program at Yale University, where he serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies, and has also taught at Columbia University and New York University.
Grimstad composed original scores for several independent films, including Frownland (2007), Heaven Knows What (2014), Thirst Street (2017), Jobe'z World (2018) and The Sweet East (2023). He has also released avant-pop recordings and compilations of his film music.
As an actor, Grimstad appeared in Frownland and played Howard Sommerville in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (2025). He was born in 1973 in Branch, Wisconsin.
