Biography
Paul Harrod is an American production designer, art director and director specialising in stop-motion animation. He earned a BFA in 1986 and an MFA in 1988 from the California Institute of the Arts. In the early 1990s he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he served as senior art director at Will Vinton Studios and contributed to projects including miniature sets for Pee-wee's Playhouse and stop-motion work for Aardman Animations.
Harrod directed five episodes of the Fox series The PJs (1999–2001) and served as its production designer. He was co-production designer, with Adam Stockhausen, on Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs (2018), for which they received the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for an Animated Feature. He later worked as production designer on Henry Selick's Wendell & Wild (2022) and the Apple TV+ series Shape Island (2023). Harrod lives in Portland with his wife, filmmaker Joanna Priestley.
