Biography
Peter Breck was an American character actor. Born Joseph Peter Breck on 13 March 1929 in Rochester, New York, he studied English and drama at the University of Houston and began his career in theatre, including productions at the Alley Theatre in Houston and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.
He gained early film experience with an uncredited role in Thunder Road (1958) after being spotted by Robert Mitchum. Breck appeared in Samuel Fuller's Shock Corridor (1963) as journalist Johnny Barrett. He was known for television roles including Clay Culhane in Black Saddle (1959–1960), Doc Holliday in Maverick (1960–1962) and Nick Barkley in The Big Valley (1965–1969).
Breck later focused on stage work and settled in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he founded an acting school. He died there on 6 February 2012.
