Biography
Peter Carroll is an Australian actor born in Sydney in 1944. He was educated at the University of Sydney, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, and the University of New South Wales, where he earned a Master of Arts with Honours; he later studied speech and drama at the Central School of London.
Carroll began his professional career in theatre in 1961 and became a leading figure in the Australian new wave of the 1970s, notably through his long association with Nimrod Theatre Company. His signature stage role is the one-man play The Christian Brothers, first performed in 1975. He has appeared in feature films including The Last Wave (1977) as Michael Zeadler and The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978) as McCready, as well as later credits such as Waking Ned (1998), Happy Feet (2006) and The Power of the Dog (2021). He is the father of actress Tamsin Carroll and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021 for services to the performing arts.
