Biography

Peter Dasent is a New Zealand-born composer, pianist and songwriter. Born in Wellington in 1954, he played keyboards in the bands Spats and The Crocodiles before moving to Sydney in 1981, where he studied jazz and formed the chamber ensemble The Umbrellas.

He composed the scores for three early Peter Jackson films: Meet the Feebles (1989), Braindead (1992) and Heavenly Creatures (1994). His other screen work includes music for documentaries, children's television and the long-running Australian series Play School, on which he has performed as pianist since 2000. He has received awards including Best Film Score for Heavenly Creatures at the 1995 New Zealand Film and Television Awards.
