Biography
Peter Gilbert is an American documentary filmmaker, producer and cinematographer. Born in 1957 in Chicago, where he grew up, he has worked extensively with Kartemquin Films. He served as cinematographer and co-producer on the 1994 documentary Hoop Dreams, which he also helped shoot over several years.
Gilbert has directed and produced other documentaries, including With All Deliberate Speed (2004), for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination, and co-directed At the Death House Door (2008) with Steve James. Earlier credits include cinematography on Barbara Kopple's American Dream. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and has taught in the Documentary Film Program at Wake Forest University.
