Biography
Peter Howell was an English actor who worked in film, television, radio and theatre. Born Peter Norman Bulmer Howell in London on 25 October 1919, he was educated at Winchester College and began studying law at Christ Church, Oxford, before being called up for military service in the Second World War.
Howell appeared in numerous British television series and films over a career spanning more than fifty years. He played Dr Peter Harrison in the hospital drama Emergency Ward 10 (1958–1967), the prison governor in Scum (1979) and the College President in Shadowlands (1993). Other credits include guest roles in The Prisoner (1967), Doctor Who (1972) and Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989). He also worked extensively in radio, including a recurring role in The Archers.
Howell died at Denville Hall in Northwood, London, on 20 April 2015, aged 95.
