Biography
Peter Mehlman is an American television writer, producer and comedian. He grew up in New York City in a Jewish family and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1977. He began his career as a sportswriter for The Washington Post, later writing and producing the ABC series SportsBeat with Howard Cosell from 1982 to 1984, and then working as a freelance magazine writer for publications including The New York Times Magazine, GQ and Esquire.
In 1989 Mehlman moved to Los Angeles, where he was offered a writing assignment for the new series Seinfeld after submitting a humorous magazine piece. He contributed to the show from its early seasons through its final season in 1998, writing or co-writing numerous episodes and rising to co-executive producer. He received five Primetime Emmy nominations for his work on the series. He later created the short-lived sitcom It's Like, You Know... (1999) and produced the animated series Father of the Pride (2004).
