Peter Whitney (born Peter King Engle) was an American actor known for supporting roles in film and television. He was born on 24 May 1916 in Long Branch, New Jersey, and died on 30 March 1972 in Santa Barbara, California.

Whitney trained at the Pasadena Community Playhouse and began his career at Warner Bros. in the early 1940s, often playing brutish or villainous characters. His film credits include The Big Heat (1953) and The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970). He appeared as Deputy Courtney in In the Heat of the Night (1967).

On television he had recurring or guest roles in series such as Bonanza, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, The Beverly Hillbillies and Night Gallery.
