Biography

Phil Sims is a British production designer and art director. He graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a BA Hons in Theatre Design and began his career in theatre, where he was a Linbury Prize finalist and designed the play Marisol at Harrogate Theatre.

He has worked in film and television for over twenty years. Sims received production design credits on the Black Mirror episode 'USS Callister' (2017) and on Doctor Who (2023–2025). He has served as supervising art director or senior art director on films including Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

His awards include an Art Directors Guild Award for excellence in production design for 'USS Callister' (2018) and a British Film Designers Guild Award for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2024). He was also nominated for a BAFTA Television Craft Award for Black Mirror.
