Biography

Philip Chan Yan-kin (also credited as Phillip Chan Yan-Kin or Chen Hsin-Chien) is a Hong Kong actor, film director, screenwriter, producer and composer. Born on 25 January 1945 in British Hong Kong, he served as an officer in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force from 1965 to 1976, attaining the rank of superintendent before entering the film industry.

Chan made his screenwriting debut with Jumping Ash (1976) and went on to direct fourteen films between 1976 and 1990. As an actor he is frequently cast in authoritative police or official roles, including Supt. Pang in John Woo's Hard Boiled (1992), Insp. Y.K. Chen in Police Story 3: Super Cop (1992) and Captain Chen in Bloodsport (1988). He has also appeared in international productions such as Double Impact (1991) as Raymond Zhang.
