Biography
Philip Levene (9 June 1926 – 25 March 1973) was an English television writer, actor and producer. He trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art and appeared in a small role in the West End production of Reluctant Heroes from 1950 to 1954. Chronic ill health led him to begin writing radio plays in 1956.
Levene wrote nineteen episodes of the television series The Avengers (1961) from 1965 onwards and served as script consultant for twelve episodes in 1968–69. He created the series Sanctuary (1967–68) and co-created The First Lady (1968–69). His other credits include contributions to The Invisible Man, The Flying Doctor, the film The Firechasers (1971) and the posthumously released Deadly Strangers (1975). He received a Writers' Guild Award for his work on The Avengers.
