Biography
Philip Saltzman was an American television writer and producer. He was born on 19 September 1928 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, to Russian immigrant parents, and moved to Los Angeles as a child. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Saltzman began writing for television in the late 1950s, contributing to series including Alcoa Theatre, The Rifleman, Perry Mason (three episodes, 1964–65) and The Fugitive (six episodes, 1964–67). He later worked as a producer on The F.B.I. (1969–73) and Barnaby Jones (1973–80), and as supervising producer on later Columbo episodes.
