Biography
Philippe Laudenbach (1936–2024) was a French actor. He trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique and made his film debut in Alain Resnais’s Muriel (1963). He appeared in more than one hundred films and worked with directors including Resnais, François Truffaut and Xavier Beauvois.
Laudenbach played Célestin in Of Gods and Men (2010). Other notable screen roles include Maître Clément in Truffaut’s Confidentially Yours (1983) and the jury president in Romantics Anonymous (2010). On stage he received a Molière Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for his performance in Luigi Pirandello’s Le Bonnet du fou. He was the nephew of actor Pierre Fresnay and was married to actress and teacher Francine Walter.
