Biography
Phillip Barker is a Canadian production designer, filmmaker and artist based in Toronto. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, he moved to Canada as a child and studied at the Ontario College of Art. He has worked extensively as production designer with director Atom Egoyan on eleven feature films and two operas, including The Sweet Hereafter (1997), for which he shared a Genie Award nomination.
Barker received the Directors Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Achievement in Production Design for Where the Truth Lies (2005). His other film credits include The Wicker Man (2006), Redacted (2007), Chloe (2010), The Captive (2014) and Guest of Honour (2019). He has also designed for television series such as Reign, Star Trek: Discovery and The Sinner.
As a director, Barker has made numerous short films that have screened at international festivals, including recent works Shadow Nettes (2017) and EarthWorm (2024). His film-based installations have been exhibited internationally.
