Biography
Phyllis Brooks was an American actress and model. Born Phyllis Seiler in Boise, Idaho, on 18 July 1915, she began her career as a model, notably as the 'Ipana Toothpaste Girl'. She appeared in around 30 films, often as a B-movie leading lady in the 1930s and 1940s.
Her film credits include In Old Chicago (1938) as Ann Colby, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), Little Miss Broadway (1938), The Shanghai Gesture (1941) and Lady in the Dark (1944). She also appeared on Broadway in productions such as Stage Door (1936–37) and Panama Hattie (1940–42). During the Second World War, she took part in a USO tour to the Pacific theatre.
In 1945 she married Torbert H. Macdonald, later an 11-term Democratic Congressman from Massachusetts, and they had four children. Brooks continued occasional stage and television work before retiring from public performances. She died on 1 August 1995 in Cape Neddick, Maine.
