Biography
Phyllis Nagy is an American screenwriter, playwright and film director. Born in New York City on 7 November 1962, she moved to London in 1992. Her playwriting career developed at the Royal Court Theatre, where she served as writer-in-residence in the mid-1990s.
Nagy wrote the screenplay for the 2015 film Carol, an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. She had previously written and directed the television film Mrs. Harris (2005), earning Emmy nominations for writing and directing. Her feature directorial debut, Call Jane (2022), premiered at Sundance.
