Biography
Pierre Barbaud (1911–1990) was a French composer and actor. He composed scores for numerous films, including Agnès Varda’s La Pointe Courte (1955) and The Creatures (1966), as well as works by Chris Marker and Alain Resnais. He was a pioneer of algorithmic and computer-assisted composition, using early computers systematically from 1959.
Barbaud also appeared in minor acting roles, notably as the father in Resnais’s Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) and as a hotel guest in Last Year at Marienbad (1961). Born in Saint-Eugène (now Bologhine), Algiers, Algeria, he died in Nice, France.
