Biography
Pierre Braunberger (29 July 1905 – 16 November 1990) was a French film producer and occasional actor. Born in Paris, he entered the industry in the 1920s after early experience in Germany, Britain and the United States. In 1930 he formed a partnership with Roger Richebé; their company, Les Etablissements Braunberger-Richebé, produced Jean Renoir’s La Chienne (1931).
Braunberger produced or co-produced numerous films with Renoir, including Nana (1926), Tire-au-flanc (1928) and Partie de campagne (1936). He later founded or operated several production companies and the Cinéma du Panthéon in Paris. From the 1950s he supported emerging directors of the French New Wave, producing works such as François Truffaut’s Tirez sur le pianiste (1960), Jean-Luc Godard’s Vivre sa vie (1962) and Alain Resnais’s Muriel, ou le temps d’un retour (1963).
