Biography
Pietro Mascagni was an Italian composer best known for his operas. Born in Livorno on 7 December 1863, he achieved international fame with the premiere of his one-act verismo opera Cavalleria rusticana in Rome in 1890.
He composed fifteen operas in total, along with orchestral works, songs and piano music. His music from Cavalleria rusticana, Silvano and Guglielmo Ratcliff was used in the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull (1980). Mascagni also wrote the score for the 1917 silent film Satan's Rhapsody (Rapsodia satanica). He died in Rome on 2 August 1945.
