Biography

Piotr Machalica was a Polish actor. He graduated from the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Warsaw in 1981 and made his film debut in Rycerz (1980). He was long associated with Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw and served as artistic director of Teatr im. Adama Mickiewicza in Częstochowa from 2006 to 2018.

Machalica appeared in several films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, including A Short Film About Love (1988) and Decalogue (1989) as Roman, and Three Colors: White (1994) as the man under the exchange office. Other notable screen roles include appearances in Nothing Funny (1996), Day of the Wacko (2002) and We're All Christs (2006). He was also a performer of sung poetry, interpreting works by Bulat Okudzhava and Georges Brassens.

Machalica died in Warsaw on 14 December 2020.
