Biography

Piotr Sobociński was a Polish cinematographer. He was born on 3 February 1958 in Łódź and died on 26 March 2001 in Vancouver, Canada. He was the son of cinematographer Witold Sobociński and studied at the National Film School in Łódź, graduating in 1987.

Sobociński collaborated with director Krzysztof Kieślowski on Dekalog (1988–89) and Three Colours: Red (1994), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography. He later worked on several Hollywood productions, including Ransom (1996), Marvin's Room (1996), Twilight (1998) and Hearts in Atlantis (2001).

He was married to actress Hanna Mikuć. Two of his sons, Piotr Sobociński Jr and Michał Sobociński, also became cinematographers.
