Biography

Pritam Chakraborty, also known mononymously as Pritam and credited as JAM8, is an Indian film composer, singer and music producer. He was born on 14 June 1971 in Kolkata, West Bengal.

He trained in sound engineering at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. After working on advertising jingles and television themes, he debuted as a co-composer on the 2001 film Tere Liye alongside Jeet Gannguli and as a solo composer on Stumped (2003). His breakthrough came with the soundtrack for Dhoom (2004).

Chakraborty has composed for over 100 Bollywood films. Among his best-known scores are those for Dangal (2016), Barfi! (2012), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Dilwale (2015), Jab We Met (2007) and Dhoom 3 (2013). He founded the music company JAM8 in 2016 and has received a National Film Award and multiple Filmfare Awards.
