Biography
R.S. vander Wende, also credited as Richard Vander Wende or Richard van der Wende, is an American production designer and visual designer. He began his career at Industrial Light & Magic, working as a conceptual designer on films including Innerspace (1987) and Willow (1988).
He joined Walt Disney Feature Animation, where his early visual development work contributed to the selection of Aladdin as the studio’s next project. Vander Wende served as production designer on the 1992 film. He later moved into video game design, serving as co-director and co-designer of Riven: The Sequel to Myst (1997) and returning to Cyan Worlds in 2021 to direct a remake of the game.
