Biography
Rachel Elkind is an American composer, record producer and musician. Born in San Francisco on 23 February 1939, she moved to New York City hoping to pursue a career as a jazz singer. She worked closely with Wendy Carlos from 1967 to 1980, producing several of her early electronic music albums including Switched-On Bach (1968).
Elkind is credited as co-composer, with Carlos, on the electronic score for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980). Although Kubrick ultimately used pre-existing classical recordings for much of the film, their contributions included the main title theme and other cues; some of the unused material later appeared on Carlos's album Rediscovering Lost Scores.
