Biography
Rachel Roberts (20 September 1927 – 26 November 1980) was a Welsh actress. She studied at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and made her film debut in Valley of Song (1953).
She is known for her performances in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960) as Brenda, This Sporting Life (1963) as Mrs. Margaret Hammond, Murder on the Orient Express (1974) as Hildegarde Schmidt, Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) as Mrs. Appleyard, Foul Play (1978), Yanks (1979) as Mrs. Clarrie Moreton and When a Stranger Calls (1979) as Dr. Monk. She won BAFTA Awards for Best British Actress for the first two of these films and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for This Sporting Life.
Roberts was married to actor Rex Harrison from 1962 to 1971.
