Biography
Raija Talvio is a Finnish film editor, screenwriter and academic. She was born on 30 April 1959 in Helsinki. She began her career as an assistant editor on Aki Kaurismäki’s Crime and Punishment (1983) and subsequently edited all of his feature films of the 1980s, including Shadows in Paradise (1986), Hamlet Goes Business (1987), Ariel (1988) and Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1989). She has also edited several films directed by Anssi Mänttäri.
Talvio has written screenplays for Taru Mäkelä’s Pikkusisar (1999), for which she and the director received the 2000 Suomi-palkinto, and Mieletön elokuu (2013). She holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Aalto University (2015) and has been professor of film and television screenwriting at the university since 2019.
