Biography
Randa Haines is an American film and television director and producer. Born in Los Angeles, she began her career as a script supervisor on independent films before attending the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women. Her early directing credits include episodes of the series Knots Landing and Hill Street Blues (1981), as well as the television films The Jilting of Granny Weatherall (1980) and Something About Amelia (1984).
Haines made her feature debut with Children of a Lesser God (1986). She has also directed The Doctor (1991), Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (1993), Dance with Me (1998) and the television films The Outsider (2002) and The Ron Clark Story (2006). She received Directors Guild of America Award nominations for Something About Amelia and Children of a Lesser God, and an Emmy nomination for the former. Haines won the Silver Bear at the 37th Berlin International Film Festival and served on its jury in 1989.
