Biography
Raphaël Diligent (also credited as Rafa Diligent or Rapha Diligent) was a French actor, sculptor, painter and illustrator. He was born Charles Louis Diligent on 17 May 1884 in Flize, Ardennes, and died on 11 July 1964 in Paris.
Diligent trained under Auguste Rodin and François Pompon. He is known for animalier sculptures and a bust of Camille Claudel, and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants. He lived with the journalist and writer Fanny Clar and served as a municipal councillor in Orgerus from 1935 to 1945.
His screen appearances were limited to two films directed by Jean Vigo: he played the firefighter in Zero for Conduct (1933) and the tramp, also referred to as Raspoutine, in L'Atalante (1934).
