Biography
Raymond Besant is a Scottish wildlife cameraman and photographer from Orkney. He grew up in Kirkwall and began his career in press photography before specialising in long-lens wildlife filming. He has contributed to numerous BBC Natural History Unit productions and series for National Geographic.
His television credits include Springwatch (2012–2018), Nature (2015–2019), Frozen Planet II (2022), Wild Isles and Highlands: Scotland’s Wild Heart. In 2024 he served as underwater cinematographer on the feature film The Outrun. Besant has published wildlife photography books including Naturally Orkney (2014) and leads wildlife tours in Orkney. In 2024 he received an honorary Doctor of Science from Robert Gordon University.
