Biography
Reginald Gardiner (also credited as William Reginald Gardiner) was an English actor who appeared in films and on television. Born in London in 1903, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career on the London stage before moving to Hollywood in the mid-1930s.
He made his film debut in the 1927 silent The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog and went on to appear in nearly 100 films, often in roles as a British butler or upper-class Englishman. Among his best-known performances were as Commander Schultz in Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940), Francois in The Flying Deuces (1939) and John Sloan in Christmas in Connecticut (1945).
In later years Gardiner made guest appearances on television series including Bewitched (1964), Batman (1966) and Perry Mason (1957). He died in 1980.
