Biography

Reginald Sheffield (1901–1957) was an English-American actor, also credited as Matthew Reginald Sheffield Cassan, Eric Desmond, Reggie Sheffield and Reggy Sheffield. Born in the St George's, Hanover Square district of London, he made his screen debut as a child in the 1913 film David Copperfield, billed as Eric Desmond. His family emigrated to the United States in 1914 and settled in New York, where he appeared on Broadway in productions including Evidence (1914), Hay Fever (1925) and Soldiers and Women (1929).

Sheffield moved to Hollywood in the late 1920s and played numerous character and supporting roles in films. His credits include Of Human Bondage (1934) as Cyril Dunsford, Gunga Din (1939), The Lady Eve (1941) as Professor Jones (uncredited), Suspicion (1941) as Reggie Wetherby, My Name Is Julia Ross (1945) and 23 Paces to Baker Street (1956). He also appeared in the television series Rocky Jones, Space Ranger from 1954. He was married to Louise Van Loon from 1927 until his death and had three children, including the actor Johnny Sheffield.
