Biography
Reinhold Schünzel was a German actor and director. Born in Hamburg in 1888, he made his film debut in 1916 and became a prominent figure in German cinema during the silent era, appearing in both comedies and dramas while also directing films such as Katharina die Große (1920).
He continued working in Germany into the 1930s despite his Jewish ancestry, directing comedies including Viktor und Viktoria (1933). Schünzel emigrated to the United States in 1937, where he directed several Hollywood films and acted in titles such as Hangmen Also Die! (1943) and Notorious (1946), playing Dr. Anderson.
After the Second World War he returned to Germany and resumed acting on stage and screen until his death in 1954.
