Biography
Richard C. Hankins is an American production designer and art director. He studied scenic and lighting design at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 1973, and began his career designing for theatre productions in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maine before moving into television.
Hankins worked on several daytime soap operas, including Guiding Light, Another World and Texas, initially as a scenic designer. He joined NYPD Blue in 1994 as an assistant art director, later serving as art director and then production designer from 1995 to 2005 across more than 200 episodes. He subsequently designed the first season of Saving Grace (2007) and two seasons of Private Practice (2008–2010).
Hankins received three Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Art Direction for a Series for his work on NYPD Blue.
