Biography
Richard Ciupka is a Canadian cinematographer and film director. Born in 1950 in Liège, Belgium, he immigrated to the United States at the age of six.
He worked as cinematographer on the 1980 film Atlantic City, directed by Louis Malle. His directorial debut was the 1983 horror film Curtains, on which he is credited as Jonathan Stryker after leaving the production midway through due to creative differences with the producer. He has also directed episodes of television series including The Hunger (1998) and French-language Canadian features such as La mystérieuse mademoiselle C. (2002).
Ciupka has worked extensively in television, including as cinematographer on the series Nouvelle adresse (2014–2015), for which he received a Gémeaux award for best cinematography in a dramatic series. He has also produced and directed or photographed numerous television commercials in Canada and the United States.
