Biography
Richard Condon was an American novelist known for his satirical thrillers exploring political corruption and abuse of power. Born in New York City, he worked for two decades as a film publicist for studios including Walt Disney Productions and Twentieth Century-Fox before turning to writing at the age of 42.
His second novel, The Manchurian Candidate (1959), brought him international recognition and was adapted into a film in 1962. Condon wrote the novel Prizzi's Honor (1982) and co-wrote the screenplay for its 1985 film adaptation with Janet Roach; the screenplay earned a BAFTA Award and an Academy Award nomination. Other notable works include Winter Kills (1974) and the subsequent Prizzi novels Prizzi's Family (1986), Prizzi's Glory (1988) and Prizzi's Money (1994). He died in Dallas, Texas.
