Biography
Richard Hartley (born 28 July 1944) is an English composer and musical arranger. He grew up in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.
In the 1970s he began a long association with Richard O'Brien, originally playing in the four-piece band for The Rocky Horror Show. He arranged the score for the London stage production and its film adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), as well as Shock Treatment (1981). His other film scores include Bad Timing (1980), Sheena (1984), Stealing Beauty (1996) and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004).
Hartley has composed extensively for television, including the incidental music for the Doctor Who story Mindwarp (1986). He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries or a Movie for Alice in Wonderland (1999).
