Biography

Richard Marvin is an American composer for film and television, sometimes credited as Rick Marvin.

He grew up in suburban Philadelphia and studied classical and jazz piano, composition, and electronic music at Indiana University School of Music. After moving to Los Angeles in 1978, he worked as a session musician and synthesist for composers including Mike Post and Maurice Jarre before beginning to compose scores in the early 1990s.

Marvin is known for his scores for the television series Six Feet Under (2001–2005) and Grimm (2011–2017), as well as the films U-571 (2000) and Surrogates (2009). He has received BMI Film and Television Awards for his work on U-571 and Six Feet Under.
