Biography

Rick Mittleman was an American television writer and producer. He began his career in the 1950s as a producer on the live audience-request series You Asked for It before moving into writing in the early 1960s.

Over five decades he contributed scripts to numerous series, including Bewitched (1964), Get Smart (1965), Petticoat Junction (1963), MASH (1972), CHiPs (1977) and Jake and the Fatman (1987). He wrote 30 episodes of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. and also worked on The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Odd Couple. Mittleman received three Primetime Emmy nominations for his writing, on The Red Skelton Show (1963), Arnie (1971) and Van Dyke and Company* (1976). He served on the board of directors of the Writers Guild of America and was awarded its Morgan Cox Award in 1997.
