Biography

Riko Sakaguchi is a Japanese screenwriter and novelist. Born in Yokohama, she graduated from Waseda University and previously worked at NHK Enterprises before becoming a freelance writer for film, television and theatre.

Her screenwriting credits include the Studio Ghibli feature The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013), co-written with Isao Takahata, and Mary and The Witch's Flower (2017). She has also written for After the Rain (2018), To Every You I've Loved Before (2022) and To Me, the One Who Loved You (2022), among other films and television dramas. Several of her works have received awards, including the Television and Radio Writers’ Association of Japan’s Television Drama Award and the Motion Picture Producers of Japan’s Kido Award.
