Biography

Rita Assemany is a Brazilian actress born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1962. She has worked in film, television and theatre since 1980.

Her film roles include Jessé's Wife in Central Station (1998), Mother in Behind the Sun (2001), Raimunda in Beyond the Universe (2022), Célia in Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (2017) and Dulce Coelho in The Seamstress (2017). In 2000 she received best actress awards at the Brasília and Curitiba festivals for the short film Pixaim.

On stage she created the monologue Oficina Condensada (1992), which ran for three years, and appeared in productions including Medéia (1997) directed by Hans Ulrich Becker. She has also appeared in Brazilian television series and specials.
