Biography

Rita Cortese is an Argentine actress and singer. She was born Adela Rita Cortese on 5 August 1949 in Buenos Aires. She began studying acting in the early 1970s with Néstor Raimondi and later Carlos Gandolfo, and made her professional stage debut in 1980 in the play Marathón directed by Jaime Kogan. She was active in the Teatro Abierto movement during Argentina's military dictatorship.

Cortese is known for her film roles including Olinda in Herencia (2001), for which she received the Silver Condor Award for Best Actress, and the cook in the "Las ratas" segment of Wild Tales (2014). Other credits include Heroic Losers (2019), The Substitute (2022) and In the Mud (2025). On television she has appeared in series such as El sodero de mi vida, Sin código and Maradona, Blessed Dream (2021), winning multiple Martín Fierro Awards.

She has also released tango albums, including El amor, ese loco berretín (2008), which earned her a Carlos Gardel Award.
