Biography
Rita Wolf is a British-Indian actress and theatre producer. Born in Kolkata, India, she came to London at an early age and trained at the Royal Court Youth Theatre. Her professional stage debut was at the Royal Court in Hanif Kureishi’s Borderline.
She appeared in the film Majdhar (1984) before playing Tania N. Ali in My Beautiful Laundrette (1985). Other film roles include The Chain (1984), Slipstream (1989) and Girl 6 (1996). On television she has appeared in Tandoori Nights (1985–1987), Coronation Street (1990) and Law & Order (1996).
In 1990 Wolf co-founded the Kali Theatre Company with Rukhsana Ahmad to produce work by Asian women writers; she directed its first production, Song for a Sanctuary (1991). She has lived in New York City for many years.
