Biography
Robert Alan Aurthur (10 June 1922 – 20 November 1978) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. He served as a combat correspondent in the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War. After the war he wrote for early television series including Studio One and Mister Peepers.
His screen credits include the story and screenplay for Edge of the City (1957), the screenplay for Warlock (1959), dialogue for Shadows (1960), the screenplay for Grand Prix (1966) and the screenplay and direction of The Lost Man (1969). He was married to actress Bea Arthur from 1947 until their divorce in 1950.
Aurthur co-wrote the screenplay and produced All That Jazz (1979) with Bob Fosse. The film was released after his death and earned him two posthumous Academy Award nominations.
