Biography
Robert Bresson (25 September 1901 – 18 December 1999) was a French film director and screenwriter. He was born in Bromont-Lamothe, Puy-de-Dôme, France. He trained as a painter before entering cinema, directing the short film Public Affairs in 1934. He was held as a prisoner of war by German forces during the Second World War.
Bresson directed and wrote the screenplay for Diary of a Country Priest (1951). His other films include Les Dames du bois de Boulogne (1945), A Man Escaped (1956), Pickpocket (1959), The Trial of Joan of Arc (1963), Au Hasard Balthazar (1966), Mouchette (1967), Lancelot of the Lake (1974), The Devil, Probably (1977) and L'Argent (1983). He worked as director and writer or co-writer on these productions.
