Biography
Robert Gossett is an American actor born on 3 March 1954 in The Bronx, New York. He began his career in theatre, appearing in productions including a Broadway staging of August Wilson's Fences and works with the Negro Ensemble Company such as A Soldier's Play and Colored People's Time.
Gossett is best known for playing Commander Russell Taylor on the TNT series The Closer (2005–2012) and its successor Major Crimes (2012–2017), in which the character was promoted to Assistant Chief. His other television credits include a recurring role as Marshall Ashford on General Hospital (from 2021) and guest appearances on series such as Bones, Chicago Med and NYPD Blue. Film roles include parts in Arlington Road (1999), The Net (1995) and Batman Returns (1992). He is a first cousin of actor Louis Gossett Jr.
