Biography
Robert Gunner, born Robert Wolfmayer, was an American actor. He appeared as Lieutenant John Landon in the 1968 film Planet of the Apes.
Gunner was born on 27 July 1931 in North Plainfield, New Jersey. Military service in the US Navy during the Korean War led to his first television appearance on a weekly Navy programme broadcast from the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He later studied acting with Sanford Meisner at the Neighbourhood Playhouse in New York.
He worked as a professional model, appearing as the 'Marlboro Man' in television commercials and magazine advertisements and as the 'Quiet Man' in Ford commercials. His other screen credits include an uncredited role in Our Man Flint (1966), a detective in The Green Hornet (1966) and an uncredited part in Caprice (1967). He died on 18 December 2001 in Los Angeles, California.
