Biography
Robert Juillard was a French cinematographer. Born on 24 August 1906 in Joinville, Haute-Marne, he trained in photography and entered the film industry in the late 1920s. He worked as an assistant cameraman before becoming a camera operator in 1935 on Julien Duvivier’s Golgotha. His career was interrupted by the Second World War; he resumed work after 1945 and advanced to director of photography in the late 1940s.
Juillard served as director of photography on Forbidden Games (1952), directed by René Clément, and on films including Germany, Year Zero (1948), The Count of Monte Cristo (1954), Gervaise (1956) and Austerlitz (1960). He also worked as camera operator on Henri-Georges Clouzot’s The Wages of Fear (1953) and Diabolique (1955). His credits extended to television in the 1960s; he appeared in one acting role in 1969. Juillard died on 14 May 1982 in Paris.
