Biography
Robert Lewis (1909–1997) was an American actor, director and acting teacher. He appeared as Maurice Bottello in Charles Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux (1947) and had roles in Ziegfeld Follies (1945) and other films of the 1940s. He also directed the 1956 film version of Anything Goes.
A founding member of the Group Theatre in the 1930s, Lewis co-founded the Actors Studio in New York in 1947 with Elia Kazan and Cheryl Crawford. He later served as head of the acting and directing departments at the Yale School of Drama and directed Broadway productions including Brigadoon (1947).
